Jean-Michel Blanquer also provided details on the government’s announcements, after the meeting with the teachers’ unions. At least 8,000 additional reinforcements will join the ranks of National Education until the end of the year to deal with absences linked to the health crisis.
Among these reinforcements, 1,500 education assistants in the second degree (supervisors) and 1,500 administrative contractors in the first degree districts, responsible for supporting the heads of establishments and applying the health protocol. 1,700 additional “anti-coronavirus mediators” will also be recruited. For example, they will be able to carry out saliva tests in schools. Finally, 3,300 contract workers will be recruited until the end of the school year.
The Minister also announced that several hundred teachers could be recruited from additional lists, in the first degree. These lists include those who have not passed the teacher’s competition.
“Generalization of air purifiers”
Jean-Michel Blanquer also assured that the 5 million FFP2 masks promised for teachers will begin to be delivered “early next week”, primarily in nursery and elementary schools.
Regarding the request for the installation of air purifiers in the classrooms, the Minister recalled that this fell within the competence of local authorities and not of the State. “We have to respect these skills. We contribute to a fund of 20 million euros for local authorities. This fund has not yet been fully utilized. From the start I said that we had to take care of it, ”he said, putting pressure on the municipalities. “The generalization of purifiers is the goal,” he added.
Finally, Jean-Michel Blanquer mentioned the possibility of postponing the baccalaureate exams concerning the teaching of specialties, scheduled for March. “We are watching this very carefully. We are not in a position to transform them into continuous control, ”he said.
