Covid -19: Professor Philippe Amouyel reveals the date on which France will emerge from the crisis

The health situation is more worrying than ever. After a few weeks of high ceilings, the number of positive cases for covid-19 increases considerably. On Thursday, February 25, 2021, 9,400 hospitalizations and 1,845 intensive care admissions were recorded by Public Health France. Despite the 2.5 million French people vaccinated since the start of the campaign in December 2021, and containment advanced at 6 p.m., the executive is struggling to contain the pandemic, but still wishes "do everything to delay confinement", as Jean Castex informed during his press conference on Thursday 25 February 2021. To achieve this, Emmanuel Macron relies on a local strategy on a case-by-case basis: Nice and Dunkirk, which had a particularly high incidence rate, are moreover confined on weekends.

But When will we finally come out of this health crisis that has lasted for a year? Professor Philippe Amouyel analyzed the question on Friday February 26, 2021 in C to you. Questioned by Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine, the doctor said: "We will leave much of the crisis in September. There is going to be a distribution lineup until roughly summer ". Words that panicked the columnists a little. "It's a long time September", launched Patrick Cohen. "I thought it was mid-April", lamented Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine. "In mid-April, what we're going to get out of are severe forms and the saturation of hospitals and intensive care units …", said the epidemiologist.

A complete liberation "not until next summer"

For the specialist, it will be necessary to wait until September for a specific reason: "We will then have to vaccinate the rest of the population to have collective immunity. We will have to reach 60 to 70% in coverage rate (…) If we manage to have that in September the virus will circulate less and we will be able to reopen bars, restaurants, places of worship ", he explained. The expert believes that after reaching this stage, we could quite quickly "reopen cultural places. But with gauges and health protocols". The professor is convinced of this, the "full release" cannot take place immediately: "probably not until next summer."
