Covid-19: six children “by mistake” overdose of Pfizer vaccine in Le Mans

Six children received “by mistake” too high a dose of Pfizer vaccine in a vaccination center in Le Mans on Saturday, where Prime Minister Jean Castex was on the same day, the Sarthe prefecture and the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Country said on Sunday Of the loire.

But what happened? “During the first vaccines administered, six children mistakenly received a dose of 20 µg (micrograms, editor’s note) of Pfizer Comirnaty” instead of the 10 micrograms recommended for this age group, they detail in a press release.

As well, “Noting this anomaly, in addition to the measures taken for the doses of the following vaccines, the referring doctor of the vaccination center immediately contacted the families concerned to inform them and set up with them the necessary follow-up measures (…)”, they add.

For now, “None of the families has so far recalled the head doctor who had been informed of the few symptoms which had manifested themselves during the first contact (no symptoms for five children, fatigue and aches for the sixth)”.

According to the region’s ARS, the most likely post-vaccination effects when patients – in this case these six children from Le Mans – receive overdosed doses of anti-Covid vaccine are fever and body aches.

The large-capacity departmental vaccination center in Le Mans, which opened its doors on December 15, “activated a pediatric vaccination line for children aged 5 to 11, at risk of severe forms of Covid-19 and for children living in the entourage of an immunocompromised person”, recalled the prefecture of Sarthe and the ARS Pays de la Loire.
