BA.2 arrives in France and “it looks like it is taking over”. The new sub-variant, which uses the omicron scheme (BA.1) but presents several new mutations, is now spreading in France, after becoming the majority in Denmark and India. The Minister of Health and the President of the Scientific Council confirmed on Tuesday the emergence of the BA.2 sub-variant in France. The government is seeking to relaunch the vaccination of children. One month after its opening to 5-11 year olds, vaccination of children remains very much in the minority in France. Several rules will therefore be simplified for vaccinating children. First of all, the agreement of only one parent becomes sufficient again. This was already the case when the vaccination was opened for 5-11 year olds but, at the beginning of January, the ministry had asked for the agreement of both parents. The other major measure extends the number of professions that can vaccinate children, outside of dedicated centers: nurses, pharmacists and midwives will join the only doctors this week.

“We are not yet at the peak of contamination.” In the homeland of the late Raymond Poulidor, in Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat (Haute-Vienne), Emmanuel Macron announces this Tuesday morning that we have not yet arrived at the top of the pass. On a pre-campaign trip, the President of the Republic commented on the Covid-19 contamination figures, which continue to grow: “We have an incidence that continues to increase, largely driven by the omicron variant, and so we are not yet at the peak of contamination. Presumably, there will be consequences on hospitalizations and critical care, but given the levels of vaccination and what is now known about this variant, undoubtedly less important than with the delta wave.

Not enough to call into question, however, the lifting of certain constraints planned by the government. “The Prime Minister has announced a schedule of relief, which corresponds to the implementation of the vaccination pass, which allows better protection of each and everyonedeveloped Emmanuel Macron. So we have to continue, we have to continue to be vigilant and mobilized.”
