As the epidemic is gaining momentum, the anti-Covid reminder campaign starts on Monday. New this winter: the three new generation vaccines, effective against the Omicron variant as well as several of its sub-variants, which could help regain control of the pandemic in France.

The eighth wave of Covid-19 is present, with an average of 50,000 cases per day. The new vaccines, meanwhile, arrive on Monday. The anti-Covid recall campaign with the new generation vaccines adapted to Omicron will start on October 3. Clearly, anyone can be vaccinated if they wish according to the Minister of Health, François Braun.

Flu vaccine available in two weeks

Nevertheless, in its opinion, the High Authority for Health recommends targeting fragile people. This concerns, among others, the over 60s, the immunocompromised, pregnant women or even health professionals. Faced with the resumption of the epidemic, the authorities are encouraging the French people concerned to receive their injection as soon as possible, without waiting for the vaccine against the flu which will only be available within two weeks. Like last year, it will be possible to receive both serums at the same time.

The three new vaccines are suitable for Omicron. First there are those of Pfizer. One is suitable for the BA.1 subvariant, the other for BA.4 and BA.5. The Moderna laboratory has adapted its serum to the BA.1 variant. In addition to Omicron, all three vaccines also contain the original Wuhan strain, which should provide greater protection. These vaccines will be used as a booster dose only.
