Lhe world is divided into two categories: those who have decided to live with Covid and… China. The world’s second largest economy is sticking to its zero Covid strategy, adopted in 2020. This eminently political choice is not meaningless. It is important to keep in mind that China has 1.4 billion inhabitants and a territory equivalent to 17 times the size of France. We do not necessarily have in mind that 90% of these 1.4 billion are concentrated on only 43% of the territory, to the east. It is dense, very dense. The “scale effect” is not an empty word here. A small problem quickly becomes a major problem. The first choice to control the Covid in the face of an aging population, quite quick to fear viruses and microbes of all kinds, could therefore be agreed.
