The Minister of Health Olivier Véran indicated on Wednesday that the booster dose of the vaccine against the coronavirus is not extended to adolescents “for the moment”, while the possibility opens for all children aged 5 to 11 years old to receive their first dose of anti-Covid vaccine.

The vaccination of children from 5 to 11 years old is officially open, announced this Wednesday the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, who however indicated that the booster dose was not extended to adolescents “for the moment”. “We are opening the official vaccination for children” of this age group, declared the minister on BFMTV-RMC, specifying that on the sites for making appointments, the category of 5-11 years would be open “in the morning”.

The consent of one of the two parents is sufficient

The minister formalized this measure after having “had the favorable opinions of the health and scientific authorities”. “We really have to start this vaccination of children,” he said. “All you need is the agreement of one of the two parents, a parent will have to be physically present,” he recalled.

About 350 centers will ensure with “a particular circuit” the vaccination of children, detailed the minister. The High Authority of Health (HAS) had given the green light Monday to the vaccination of children from 5 years to 11 years – on the basis volunteering – after the Ethics Committee (CCNE) on Friday. A final opinion was published Wednesday morning by the Orientation Council of the vaccine strategy. After the start of vaccination for 5-11 year olds at risk on December 15, it will soon be the turn of this entire age group.
