PARIS (Reuters) – The Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (CPME) demanded on Friday that the renegotiation of electricity contracts in the face of soaring prices should not be reserved for very small businesses alone, under penalty of causing “incomprehensible effects of threshold”.

Faced with the multiple alerts launched by craftsmen, in particular bakers, because of the explosion of their electricity bills, President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday asked for a renegotiation of the “excessive” contracts recently signed between energy suppliers and very small enterprises (TPE).

A meeting was scheduled for this afternoon in Bercy between the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, his counterpart in the Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, and the energy suppliers.

“(…) the CPME reiterates its request that all SMEs be able to renegotiate or terminate their electricity supply contract free of charge, and this according to a frequency and terms to be defined”, declares the confederation in a press release .

“Limiting this option to companies with fewer than 10 employees would amount to penalizing SMEs and would create incomprehensible threshold effects”, she adds, warning against the “anger” likely to be created by this announcement already “misunderstanding”.
