Crash course in dialect – Bim- “Foahrer” from Syria amazes Vienna

Bilal Albeirouti remembers his first day as a Viennese Bim driver well. “Foa!” Said the instructor. “I knew before means in front, I looked, but there was nothing.” The instructor called again: “Foa! Drive! ”Since then he has been driving the tram and also understands Viennese.

The journalist had to flee Syria five years ago because of the war. Today, as a Bim driver, he brings the Viennese safely to work, friends and home every day. A video about his story inspires Facebook users: “Far too polite for a classic Viennese,” they write. “His German is fascinating.”

Wiener Linien encourages you to apply as a bus, tram or subway driver. During the three-month basic training course, there are 1860 euros gross per month, then 2100 euros plus allowances. Albeirouti: “It’s not that difficult if you want to.”
