Sega would have the idea of rebooting two of its legendary licenses, according to Bloomberg: Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. The idea would be to create large-scale service games capable of bringing together a huge community and generating long-term revenue. The inspiration is obviously to be found on the side of Fortnite.
Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio are two flagship titles of the Dreamcast. They could return in the next few years in the form of reboots. It is Bloomberg who affirms it, even specifying that these would be huge games in terms of budget. A risky bet for Sega.
According to Takashi Mochizuki, the journalist who wrote the article, the Crazy Taxi reboot has been in development for at least a year. It would not be ready to go out, since Sega would plan to market it within two or three years. The idea would be to make this title (and Jet Set Radio) a game inspired by Fortnite in the way of generating income.

These two reboots would be Sega’s first “Super Games”. The idea is simple: develop huge AAA blockbusters with an online aspect. The goal would be to gather a huge community of fans… and generate income over the long term. What could be better than a “fun” license appreciated by the general public to achieve this? Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio meet the specifications perfectly.

The model to follow for Sega, it’s obviously Fortnite. More than a Battle Royale, the Epic Games game has become an essential meeting place for gaming. Both a playground, a social network, a place for virtual events and a promotional platform, Fortnite generates a phenomenal amount of greenbacks. We can therefore imagine a future Crazy Taxi based on this model. Note that these two titles are not the only “Super Games” planned at Sega, since the studio is also working on a still mysterious FPS.
As a reminder, Jet Set Radio allowed the player to explore a city on rollerblades. Appreciated for its atmosphere and fluid gameplay, the title has been one of the emblems of the Dreamcast. As for Crazy Taxi, he began his career on Arcade: the goal was to drive like mad in the streets of San Francisco in order to bring customers to their destination, all with punk rock in the background. A legendary title that marked the players.
