Crdit Mutuel Arka’s profits down slightly in 2022

Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, which brings together the Brittany and South-West federations and various subsidiaries of the Crédit Mutuel group, announced on Wednesday a slight decline in annual profit (-4%) in 2022, close to its historic record.

Net profit reached 551 million euros in 2022, the second best historical performance after 574 million in 2021, a record year, according to a press release.

The group’s revenues amounted to 2.6 billion euros, up 1.5%, thanks in particular to the increase in the net interest margin.

Our overall performance is up sharply in 2022, said Julien Carmona, Chairman of Crdit Mutuel Arka, during a press conference.

We have never loaned so much, we have never recruited so much, we have never invested so much, he added.

Crdit Mutuel Arka won 120,000 new individual and professional customers during the year (+2.4%) and generated record loan production, 20.2 billion euros, up 15.2% compared to 2021 .

A purely financial logic could have led us to stop lending, to cut off credit. We didn’t, Mr. Carmona congratulated himself.

The group, which adopted the status of mission company in May, valued its environmental and social footprint at 9.4 billion euros (+ 16.3% over one year) in 2022.

It’s another way of evaluating our performance, noted Hlne Bernicot, general manager of the group, speaking of a profound paradigm shift.

Using 25 environmental or socio-economic indicators, the bank measures the positive and negative impact of its actions on its members, customers, suppliers and employees, as well as its direct impact.

This extra-financial performance of the group is driven in 2022 by the socio-economic impacts generated by the bank’s activity (10.4 billion euros), while the environmental indicators weigh negatively by 1 billion euros, due to the increase in the value of carbon (fixed 119 euros/tonne).

The current productive and financial system generates a negative impact on the environment, noted Mr. Carmona, adding that this negative impact would automatically worsen due to the rise in the price of carbon, if nothing was done.
