Crime scene voting: That's why cult investigator Schimanski is not available

From "50 particularly successful 'crime scene' episodes with 30 popular investigative teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland over the past 20 years", viewers can choose which thrillers will be repeated as part of the "crime scene" summer break. There are many cult investigators to choose from, but one is missing: "Tatort" chief crime commissioner Horst Schimanski (1981-1991) from Duisburg, who played through the shirtless and direct manner – including passionate fecal language – in the hearts of the audience and later even his own crime series (1997-2013).

spot on news asked the program director of the First German Television how the selection for the voting was made and why Schimanski of all people, who was so successfully played by legendary actor Götz George (1938-2016), is missing. "The selection was not editorial, but one based on visual participation," explains Dr. Lars Jacob added. All "crime scenes" of the past 20 years were included. "From this, the million most-watched 'crime scenes' were selected for each team / state broadcaster."

When asked specifically about Schimanski, Dr. Jacob continued: "The last Schimanski 'crime scene' was in 1991. That was almost thirty years ago, far outside the period defined for our voting."

Not a "crime scene" museum, but …

And why are the films available for selection from the past 20 and not from the past 50 years when the series is celebrating its 50th anniversary? "The 'Crime Scene Voting Event' on Sunday evening was not meant to be a 'Crime Scene' museum. The aim was also to offer the young people, who are still popular with the series, such 'Crime Scene' episodes on their first broadcasts they can remember from their own visual experience, "explains Dr. Jacob continues.

But: In order to do justice to the understandable public desire for some "historical" "crime scene" episodes, "we also added the series 'crime scene classics' to the summer program on Friday evening", the happy news. In this series "there will of course be a Schimanski episode, namely 'Duisburg: Ruhrpott'". So the fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

The favorites team is ahead in the voting

Voting can only be done online at www.DasErste.de/tatortvoting. As expected, the two Munster options "catch shot" (2017) and "Schwanensee" (2015) are currently ahead. Behind this, also to be expected, is Murot's "Born in Pain" (2014). On the other hand, a small surprise is the current fourth place: "Crime scene: greed" from 1999 with the investigators Paul Stoever (Manfred Krug) and Peter Brockmöller (Charles Brauer) …

The first repeat "crime scene" will be announced on Friday (June 19) and will run on Sunday (June 21), the last ten Sundays later on August 30. The first new first broadcast should be planned for September 6th.
