Crises, relative majority: the Marconists face a turbulent 2022 start of the school year

Until Wednesday evening, the deputies and senators of the majority meet to tackle the major subjects which await the Parliament for this return to school. War in Ukraine, energy crisis, unemployment insurance… The return to the hemicycles promises to be eventful, while the opposition intends to make their voices heard.

Sobriety, savings, small gestures… The energy crisis invites itself to the return to parliament of the majority. Senators and deputies of the Renaissance party (ex-LaREM) are meeting until Wednesday evening to discuss this eventful return to school. “In political life, I have rarely seen war, an energy crisis, a lack of raw materials and an ecological crisis at the same time”, underlines Senator François Patriat. Especially since “the majority is only relative”, he adds.

Convince or force

After five years of absolute majority, the Renaissance deputies must now convince the opposition to vote on future government texts. And while the dialogue could be complicated with certain opposition parties, the president of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet, who relies above all on consultation, does not rule out the passage in force.

“The 49-3 should not be a taboo”, she explains at the microphone of Europe 1. And to add: “We have all the mechanisms so that France can continue to function no matter what. But we are first in a phase of dialogue and construction of the budget”.

“New way of debating”

If the budget is the priority, the Maronites are preparing for long parliamentary battles and obstruction on most future texts. What put the bodies and the spirits to the test: “You cannot be called upon to sit every day, every night”, alerts the deputy Eric Woerth. “We may need to reinvent, within the framework of the rules of the Assembly, a new way of debating”, proposes the former minister.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne is expected this Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. to close the event. She will have to motivate her troops because the next big test of the majority will take place next month, with the vote on the bills on unemployment insurance and on the acceleration of the deployment of renewable energies.
