If you recently received an SMS telling you that you urgently need a new Crit’Air sticker, don’t worry: it’s a scam. Indeed, a new campaign is in progress, thus making fall in the panel of many not very careful motorists.
We no longer count the number of SMS scams that the French receive every day. La Poste, CPF, or taxes, all means are good to extract money from the most gullible. In recent days, hackers have decided to use another lever: the Crit’Air sticker. This small disc, which appeared in 2017 and is now mandatory for all vehicles purchased, is at the center of many concerns for motorists.
Indeed, it is better to be in good standing to be sure to be able to circulate in the areas of your choice. Also, it is easy to fall into the trap when you receive an SMS urgently requiring you to update your thumbnail. “Our agents have found that your vehicle was not equipped with the Crit’Air 2022 sticker. Please recover it under penalty of a fine within the next 48 hours on the attached link”can we read on the message spotted by our colleagues from La Tribune.

No need to update your Crit’Air sticker, it’s a scam
Of course, the SMS contains a link that redirects the victim to three online forms, aimed at recovering their personal data, the license plate of their vehicle and, finally, their bank details. The scam is particularly well put together because, unlike others in the genre, the fake site does not contain any spelling mistakes, and looks like two drops of water like an official page.
At least, except for one detail: as always, it’s the site’s domain name that betrays it. The latter should end in “. gouv.fr”, like any device managed directly by the government. This scam is not the first concerning the Crit’Air sticker, remember that it can only be purchased on the official government website. The latter will never send you an SMS urging you to get a new one.
