“Oppenheimer” beat out “Barbie” at the Critics Choice Awards. There were surprises among the main actors.

“Oppenheimer” was the big winner of the Critics Choice Awards 2024. The film won awards in eight of 13 nominated categories – including best film, best director (Christopher Nolan, 53) and best supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr., 58). “Barbie” followed with six wins, including for best comedy and best song (“I’m Just Ken”). The film by Greta Gerwig (40) was nominated for 18 awards, making the blockbuster a record.

Emma Stone is best actress

The main actors in last year’s two successful works, Cillian Murphy (47) and Margot Robbie (33), came away empty-handed. Best actress went to Emma Stone (“Poor Things”, 35) and best actor went to Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers”, 56). In the television category, however, there were fewer surprises, as the favorite series “The Bear: King of the Kitchen”, “Succession” and “Beef” won. “The Bear” and “Beef” took home four awards each, while “Succession” took home three.

Special honor for Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford (81) was honored with the Career Achievement Award for his life’s work. He provided a touching moment as he thanked his wife Calista Flockhart (59) for her support. “Barbie” star America Ferrera (39) received the eighth annual SeeHer Award. The German Hollywood hope Sandra Hülser (45), who was nominated for best leading actress, came away empty-handed. Her film “Anatomy of a Case” won best foreign language film. The ceremony at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on Sunday evening was moderated by Chelsea Handler (48).

The film award is presented annually by the Broadcast Film Critics Association. It honors the best films of the past year from the critics’ point of view.
