“Barbie” puts everything in the shade
“Barbie” and Margot Robbie has the prospect of numerous awards during the US film industry’s upcoming awards season.

“Barbie” will outshine everything in 2023. The comedy sets a new record in the Critics Choice Awards nominations.
2023 is clearly the year of “Barbie”. This is also evident in the nominations for the 29th Critics Choice Awards. The candy-colored comedy by director Greta Gerwig, 40, even set a new record with 18 nominations. “Oppenheimer” by master director Christopher Nolan, 53, and “Poor Things” by Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, 50, have each been nominated 13 times. And the German actress Sandra Hülser, 45, also has reason to celebrate – as she did with the nominations for the Golden Globes a few days ago the US trade journal “Variety”.
“Barbie” beats last year’s record
Among other things, “Barbie” will be in the running in the “Best Film” category at the awards ceremony on January 14, 2024. Hollywood star Margot Robbie, 33, who lends her face to the toy adaptation Barbie, can celebrate her nomination for “Best Actress”. Ryan Gosling, 43, and America Ferrera, 39, are nominated in the male and female supporting actor categories. Ferrera’s film daughter Ariana Greenblatt, 16, could become the “Best Young Actress” of the year and the entire acting ensemble could also be happy about a prize.
In addition, filmmaker Gerwig is nominated for “Best Director” and, together with partner Noah Baumbach, 54, for “Best Original Screenplay”. With a total of 18 nominations, “Barbie” surpasses last year’s winner “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Shape of Water”, which each received 14 nominations in the past.
Another success for Sandra Hülser
At the beginning of the week, German actress Sandra Hülser was pleased to receive a Golden Globe nomination for her play “Anatomy of a Case”. And she is now nominated for “Best Actress” at the Critics Choice Awards 2024 for her captivating performance in the courtroom drama. “Anatomy of a Case” is also in the running for “Best Foreign Language Film” – as is the British concentration camp drama “The Zone of Interest,” in which Hülser also appears.
The 2024 Critics Choice Awards will take place in Los Angeles early next year. Comedian Chelsea Handler, 48, hosts the ceremony. Series also receive awards. The nominated productions have been known since December 5th. “The Morning Show” from the streaming service Apple TV+ leads the field with six nominations.
