  • Alessandra Keller finished 5th in the cross-country race in Albstadt, southern Germany, as the best Swiss woman.
  • Jolanda Neff (9th) and Sina Frei (10th) are also among the top ten drivers. Victory goes to Rebecca McConnell of Australia.
  • The men’s race starts at 2:30 p.m. and can also be followed live on SRF Zwei.

For a short time it looked as if the first podium finish for a Swiss woman in the World Cup in almost three years would become a fact: two laps before the end, Alessandra Keller, who had been in the chasing trio up until then, briefly advanced to the lead.

Keller’s great satisfaction

Although the 26-year-old had to let her two competitors pass again until the end, with 5th place she equaled her second-best career result in the World Cup and is therefore allowed to take part in the award ceremony for the best 5 drivers. A satisfaction, she had missed in the previous season, among other things, the Olympic qualification.

At the front, Rebecca McConnell, the leader in the overall World Cup, showed a show of force. The Australian, together with the Swede Jenny Rissveds, pulled away early and finally distanced the last competitor for the day’s victory in the ascent of the 4th round. Returnee Rissveds should be just as satisfied with second place in her first race of the season over the Olympic distance as 22-year-old Austrian Mona Mitterwallner with her podium debut and third place.

Good Swiss team result

In addition to Keller, the other Swiss women in Albstadt also showed an appealing performance. With Jolanda Neff, who finished 9th at her personal World Cup opener in cross-country, and Sina Frei as 10th, two other Swiss women were among the top ten. Linda Indergand as eleventh and Ramona Forchini as 14th rounded off a successful result from a Swiss point of view.
