  • The Engadin Ski Marathon starts in a week and a half not in Maloja, but in Sils.
  • Too much snow requires a change in the route of the popular fun run.
  • It is still unclear whether the race will still last 42 kilometers.

In Maloja and on Lake Sils alone, one and a half meters of fresh snow has fallen in the last five days – and there is no end in sight. The enormous weight pushes the ice sheet on the frozen lake deep into the water below. Water now rises from below onto the ice surface through cracks in the ice sheet.

Follow the Engadin Ski Marathon on March 10th from 8:00 a.m. on SRF two and later on SRF info and on the web with a live stream.

For safety reasons, large cross-country ski trail vehicles, which would be necessary to prepare the route, cannot currently be used on Lake Sils. The start of the largest cross-country skiing event in the Alps therefore has to be postponed by almost seven kilometers to Sils. It is not yet clear how long the marathon route will be on March 10th.
