Crosscall introduces Core-X5 and Core-T5, a rugged smartphone and tablet for pros

Specialist in reinforced mobile solutions, the French brand Crosscall has just unveiled the Core-X5 and the Core-T5, a particularly resistant smartphone and tablet, intended for professionals.

Since its creation in 2009, the French firm Crosscall has specialized in the manufacture of waterproof and shock-resistant smartphones. The brand has just unveiled two new products that do not betray the company’s DNA: the Core X-5 and the Core T-5, a 4G smartphone and tablet supposed to withstand the worst conditions, which attempt to stand out in the field of PMR (Professional Mobile Radio). Thus, all products benefit from the X-Talk application, developed in-house, in order to be used like a walkie-talkie via a programmable button. Ideal for sectors such as construction, the army or the emergency services.

A phone ready for anything

The Crosscall Core X-5 shares similarities with the Action X5 that we tested a few months ago. It has an IP68 waterproof certification and is therefore waterproof up to two meters deep for 30 minutes, in fresh or salt water. It displays a military standard MIL-STD-810H and Crosscall promises resistance to falls of up to two meters in height. These multiple protections do not make it a light smartphone, since it weighs 256 grams. We appreciate the presence of a 3.5 mm jack port, an NFC chip and a slot for a microSD card (separate from the Dual-SIM slot). It is always equipped with a magnetic area to be able to attach it to other X-Link compatible products.

It has a 5.45-inch IPS LCD panel, displaying in HD+ (1440 x&nbsp720 pixels) and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, there is an octa-core Snapdragon 665 coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Not enough to thrill gamers or productivity enthusiasts, but probably enough for the staff targeted by the firm.

Delivered under Android 11, the device is certified Android Enterprise Recommended, which ensures the upgrade to the next Android OS as well as a regular update of security patches for at least the next three years. In addition, the device itself is guaranteed for five years. The icing on the cake, it benefits from an excellent repairability rating (9.1/10).

In photo, the Core X-5 is equipped with a simple rear dorsal module consisting of a 48 Mpx wide-angle lens whose lens opens at f / 1.8. The ultra wide-angle of its predecessor has therefore disappeared. However, it will be able to shoot in 4K at 30 fps. An 8MP sensor is housed on the front.

Autonomy is ensured by a 4940 mAh battery and the smartphone is compatible with reverse charging via USB Type-C port. A 10W charger comes in the box. Given its technical sheet, we can expect good endurance. It is now offered at €549.99.

A tablet for pros

The Core T-5 tablet retains the same philosophy as the Core X-5. This 594 gram 4G tablet displays the same certifications as the mobile (IP68, IP6X, US MIL STD 810H, etc.), but is distinguished by its larger size. We find here again a 3.5 mm jack port, a microSD port (up to 512 GB) and an NFC chip.

On the other hand, we take advantage of an 8-inch screen, displaying in 1280 x 800 pixels, protected by Cornig Gorilla Glass 3. To run the whole thing, we are once again entitled to the Snapdragon 665, this time coupled with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. It has a five-year warranty and benefits from the same program for Android as the mobile.

In photo, Crosscall has opted for a simple 13 Mpx back sensor here. A 5 MP front module is housed in the front. The tablet also has a 7000 mAh battery, which will probably take a long time to recharge with the 10 W charger supplied in the box. It is sold for €649.99.

These two models therefore complete a range already made up of the Action-X5 and the Core M-5, launched at the end of 2021.
