Crossover athlete – Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GX: Attack on the BMW S 1000 XR

Still an enduro or more of a sport bike? Types like Ducati’s Multistrada or BMW S 1000 XR don’t want to make a clear commitment here. Now Suzuki also has such a crossover model on the market.

Suzuki’s motorcycle division has presented the new GSX-S 1000 GX, a long-distance performance bike. On the long-legged crossover model, the driver assumes a similar upright position as on a travel enduro. Thanks to the large front fairing with an adjustable windshield, it is protected from the wind. The GX’s extensive equipment also promises superior travel comfort. The heart of the car is a one-liter in-line four-cylinder that sends its 106 Newton meters and 152 hp to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual transmission and chain. Consumption should be 6.2 liters per 100 kilometers. Suzuki specifies the top speed as “over 200”. The chassis with 15 centimeters of travel offers a USD fork at the front and a two-arm swing arm with a central spring strut at the rear. Electronically controlled spring elements from Showa allow the damping rates to be adjusted to the driving situation in real time. Among other things, the GX should be able to glide more relaxed over cobbled streets. In addition, the adaptive chassis should ensure better handling and high-speed stability of the touring Suzuki, which weighs around 230 kilograms. The technology also allows a preload adapted to the load. The arsenal of control systems includes cornering ABS, lean angle-dependent drag torque control and traction control, wheelie control and a control system that prevents the rear wheel from lifting during heavy braking. The standard cruise control maintains the desired speed even when changing gears using the quickshifter. The cockpit of the GX offers a generously sized 6.5-inch TFT display on which app content such as navigation can be displayed via smartphone coupling. The GSX-S 1000 GX will be available in Austria at the beginning of 2024 with prices starting at 19,800 euros available.
