Crowdfunding: a new record

Crowdfunding platforms have collected nearly 2 billion euros in funds in one year. A record figure boosted by real estate crowdfunding.

Crowdfunding is increasingly attractive. Last year, 1.88 billion euros were collected on crowdfunding platforms, i.e. a 84% growth compared to 2020, according to data published by Mazars and the association Financement Participatif France. As a result, since 2015, the figures have been multiplied by 11.2, bringing the collection of crowdfunding to nearly 5 billion euros. In total, the 67 crowdfunding platforms that responded to the survey funded 168712 projects in 2021.

This year, crowdfunding recorded the strongest growth in its history in terms of fundraising. He becomes an increasingly common savings solution for the French but also a tool of generosity adopted by the general public. Project leaders are even more numerous in 2021 to use crowdfunding for its qualities of proximity, transparency and responsiveness, underlines Bertrand Desportes, partner at Mazars.

The big winner is the real estate sector since it attracted more than a billion euros in 2021, supported by a posted rate of return which exceeds 9% according to recent figures from the 2021 real estate crowdfunding barometer disclosed by Fundimmo.
