“Crown” for flood victims – Dramatic scenes: “The mudslide rolled towards us”

Purposeful optimism, desperation, resignation – on day 2 after the storm, the clean-up work is in full swing. The “Krone” spoke to some of those affected during a local inspection.

“Terrible. We have no idea how to proceed now. Luckily, my husband and I live on the first floor,” says Maria Tarkush from Kühnsdorf, with tears in her eyes, while firefighters are still removing the water from the ground floor. “It was almost a meter high here – we can now throw away all the cupboards and boxes.” Her basement and the car are still flooded to the second basement staircase. Luckily nothing happened in the restaurant. Many thanks to the emergency services!” In Neuhaus, the Jeuschnigger family has already won the battle against the water in their flooded Patekmühle farmer’s museum – but the mud is now the problem here. Just like on the Ruhstatt, where a mudslide hit the house of the Olschan family with full force. The masses of earth reach up to the ground floor windows. Due to the current storm and flood events, many people in the affected areas are faced with the ruins of their existence. Please help with your donation! We got to safety in front of the house.” Florianis from Lower Austria is now helping the family with excavators to remove the masses of mud. Regina G. in Eberndorf, who currently has to get by without hot water, is also in pure desperation. “We’ve never had water in the basement during a storm. When I got up on Saturday, the blow hit me. The water was almost up to the bottom of the basement. We pumped for three days. I pray it’s not all broken…”
