“Crown” Heartman – Silent Companions assist in final hours

The “Krone”-Herzensmensch gala was celebrated on Friday, November 11th. The “Krone” together with the volunteer service said “thank you” for the commitment of the many volunteers in Lower Austria! Three clubs received the Herzensmensch Award. The hospice movement in Baden took second place. The association has been helping the dying in their final hours for almost 30 years. Relatives are also cared for by volunteers after the death of a loved one.

Second place in the Herzensmensch Award for clubs this year goes to the hospice movement in Baden. “Hospice is not only a place, but also a way of life,” explains Chairwoman Andrea Hohl. The association accompanies and cares for people at the end of their lives – and this must be done with a great deal of dignity and tailored to the needs of the patients also a great team of volunteers. The volunteers accompany regionally in hospitals, care facilities and at home and they also keep watch from patients. Heart in the right place The chairwoman hopes for an expansion of hospice and palliative care facilities in Lower Austria. “Everyone has their hearts in the right place here. We’re a big family,” she says. Next year the Baden hospice movement will be celebrating its 30th anniversary.
