Crown Prince Haakon suffered a serious accident while surfing. The heir to the Norwegian throne revealed this in an interview.

On the occasion of his upcoming 50th birthday on July 20, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway (49) gave a big interview to the daily newspaper “Aftonposten” there. In it, the husband of Crown Princess Mette-Marit (49) reveals that he suffered a serious accident while surfing in autumn 2018, which, according to the Norwegian newspaper, could have ended “seriously”.

Prince Haakon became the plaything of the waves

Accordingly, the prince was caught on the head by his own board during a surf trip. His ear was injured so badly that it started bleeding. “Waves threw him around like he was in a washing machine,” says Aftonposten about the moments immediately after the accident. The result was a hole in the prince’s eardrum. In addition, the Norwegian heir to the throne subsequently suffered from hearing problems. The doctors also imposed a temporary surfing ban on him.

Prince Haakon is considered a passionate surfer. He is said to have discovered sea sports in the 1990s while he was a student at the University of California, Berkeley. Haakon also shares this passion with his daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra (19).

Crown Prince Haakon and his wife Crown Princess Mette-Marit are both celebrating their 50th birthday this summer. The Crown Princess’ day of honor falls on August 19, about a month later than her husband’s.
