A new night of tension in Corsica, with clashes between CRS and nationalists. The police are accused of having sung the Marseillaise during the funeral of Yvan Colonna. “Violence does not help dialogue, it is even often a blockage”, first said Yannick Jadot, guest of the presidential meeting on Monday morning. “I don’t know what happened, but you don’t do that at Colonna’s funeral, because if it’s true, it’s a provocation”, protested the Europe Ecology-The Greens candidate at the Sonia Mabrouk’s microphone.
“If that’s true, of course, I dare not imagine that it was an instruction that they received,” he continued.
Call for a “peaceful relationship”
Regarding the relationship between France and the Island of Beauty, Yannick Jadot assured that “we have had to build this peaceful relationship with Corsica for years”. And to accuse the president-candidate Emmanuel Macron of not having “dealt with the Corsican file” for five years. “You have in Corsica a majority led by Gilles Simeoni who, for months and months, with a strong majority, has been calling for dialogue with the French state”, he recalled.
Use intelligence to resolve differences
The EELV candidate also recalled the recurring difficulties of Corsica. “There are land issues, tourism management, territorial continuity with transport, waste, or energy autonomy,” he listed. For him, we must “therefore reflect and put intelligence” into the resolution of the conflict. “I’ve always been in favor of experimenting with public policies at the territorial level. That’s intelligence.”
Asked about the slogans heard during the demonstrations on the island this weekend, in particular that of “French shitty”, Yannick Jadot condemned these remarks, affirming that “the debate will not be built with those who shout that” .
