Crucial’s very good X8 portable SSD is entitled to two successors: the X9 and X10 Pro

It’s been almost 4 years since we tested the X8 portable SSD from Crucial, which proved to be effective, and now the manufacturer is finally renewing the range. Its most direct replacement is simply called X9 Pro and if its speed limit of 1050 MB / s is identical to the previous version, Crucial ensures that the new Micron chip used should offer better performance in real transfers.

The main interest of the X9 lies above all in its compactness and its lightness, it is moreover one of the big negative points that the X8 took on with its 99 g. The X9 weighs only 38 g and is therefore close to featherweights like the WD My Passport or the Corsair EX100U.

The X10 Pro is very similar, but it’s inside that it all happens since it takes advantage of the USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×2 standard. The maximum speed is therefore 2000 MB/s in theory, but be careful to be able to take advantage of it, you must have a compatible motherboard, which is still rare today.

The two portable SSDs are already available for sale, in capacities of 1, 2 and 4 TB and are displayed at 97 € for the X9 Pro and 140 € for the X10 Pro in the 1 TB version.
