Cruise: Aida cancels numerous cruise trips – which are affected

The company reported a net loss of $ 4.4 billion in the second quarter, the company said on Thursday based on preliminary results in Miami. A year ago, Carnival had earned $ 451 million.

Revenue decreased from $ 4.8 billion to $ 700 million. As a result, the already weak market expectations were missed. The stock initially reacted with strong price losses.

The corona pandemic has caused major problems for the tourism giant, which also includes the German cruise operator Aida Cruises. The industry giant hit the headlines early on due to virus outbreaks on some of its ships, becoming a symbol of the crisis.

Aida suspends all cruise travel in the United States and Canada

The Rostock cruise company Aida has, however, suspended its planned trips to destinations in the USA and Canada this year.

“As a result of the continuing effects of the corona virus, the conditions for international travel to the USA and Canada are not yet in place. Cruises in Canada will not be possible until the end of October 2020, while in the USA there will be an entry stop for Europeans until further notice, ”the company said in Rostock at the beginning of June. Trips with the ships "Aidadiva" and "Aidaluna" were planned.

What Aida passengers should now know

Due to the corona pandemic, Aida Cruises had already canceled all cruises on the 14 ships in its fleet by June 30. For guests on all canceled trips, the travel price already paid will be deposited as credit plus a ten percent bonus. This credit can be used for bookings made until the end of 2021. Guests who do not wish to take advantage of this offer will be reimbursed the travel price in the amount of the payment already made.
