Cruise ship rescues two girls from the sea near Kangaroo Island

The crew of the cruise ship "Sun Princess" saved two teenagers near the popular Australian excursion island of Kangaroo Island. The girls had swum out into the open sea trying to catch up with their drifted kayaks. Because of the strong current, it was no longer possible for them to swim back to the island.

This was announced by the travel portal "travel weekly". The teenagers who visited the island with their parents tied up the kayaks to go snorkeling. But due to the weather conditions and currents, the kayaks drifted out into the open sea. The girls swam after them, exhausting themselves so much that they could no longer make it back to the island on their own.

A ferry finally discovered the two and reported “two helpless people in the water” by radio. When the captain realized that they were close to where the "Sun Princess" anchored, he reacted immediately.

He sent a small boat that could finally save the two girls. They were examined by the medical service on board and finally brought back to their parents.

CEO: "Girl saved from severe trauma, if not death"

Stein Kruse, CEO of Holland America Group, which also includes the "Sun Princess", later wrote in a statement: "A normal day for our team; saved two girls from a possibly severe trauma, if not death! Well done!"
