Crunchyroll is enjoying great success in France, however, we have some bad news to tell you if you are a subscriber or considering becoming one. Explanations.
Crunchyroll, the Japanese animation streaming giant, has just announced an upward revision of its subscription prices for the Fan and Mega Fan plans, a first since 2019. This price increase comes in a context of expansion significant in the platform’s offering, which now includes more anime, but also additional services such as access to games and music.
Crunchyroll raises prices
The new tariffs, which affect several countries including France, Argentina, Colombia, Portugal and the United States, mark a turning point in the company’s strategy. In France, the price of the Fan subscription will increase to €5.99 (compared to 4.99 before) per month, while that of the Mega Fan will now be €7.99 (compared to 6.49) per month. This increase follows a considerable expansion of Crunchyroll’s catalog, which today offers more than 45,000 episodes spread across 1,400 series and films, requiring almost two years of continuous viewing to complete.
Fan plan subscribers will benefit from ad-free access and will be able to view new releases simultaneously with their release in Japan, on one device at a time. Mega Fan subscribers, meanwhile, will be able to stream on four devices simultaneously and access an offline mode as well as the Crunchyroll Game Vault, which offers a selection of free games.
The free trial is reduced
In addition to the pricing changes, Crunchyroll has reduced its free trial period from 14 to 7 days. This decision is part of a series of new developments for the platform, which also includes the launch of an online store in Europe and the introduction of a Multi Profile functionality, allowing users from the same household to create profiles with personalized viewing lists and recommendations.
