CS:GO: NaVi forced to change its roster following the war in Ukraine

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, many political actions have been carried out against Russia, and esports have not necessarily escaped this. During the last MSI on League of Legends, the Russian representative could not participate since the league had stopped in the middle of the season. On the CS:GO side, Russian teams had been banned from some competitions which prevented two of the best teams in the world from competing, Virtus.Pro and Gambitrecently acquired by Cloud9.

In the middle of it all, Navi, Ukrainian structure with Russian players, had continued to participate in all major competitions, including the last Major, only beaten in the final by FaZe Clan. While the structure had managed to keep all its members until then, the impact of the war in Ukraine was too strong and forced him to make a change. Arrived in 2019 as an in-game leader, Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhaylov was placed on the bench following the Major of Antwerp.

The reason given by NaVi is simple, “the reasons for the decision are associated with high reputational risks for the club“. WhileOleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev and his teammates dominated the competitions for some time, it may hinder the progress of the team. If we do not really know the reasons why Boombl4 was considered close to Russia unlike his Russian teammates, it would seem that the player’s wife is one of the reasons.

In fact, according to rumours, she would have indicated her support for Russia in this war. If this is potentially not the truth, it is a plausible reason why the player, irreproachable in play, was put on the bench. To see if the other Russian players of NaVi will suffer the same fate in the coming weeks or if they will keep their place.

The situation is extremely complex for the players and the structure but we hope that all this will be sorted out soon but it is not won. We are now waiting for the identity of the player who will replace Boombl4 but according to the official Twitter account, for the moment nothing has been done.
