We are in April 2002. Even if Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra has already sold out, attracting more than 14 million spectators in French cinemas, another comedy aimed at the general public is about to be released in cinemas. .
This is Le Boulet, co-directed by Alain Berbérian and Frédéric Forestier, and carried by a duo of actors who have never acted opposite each other before: the mischievous and hilarious Benoît Poelvoorde, and the charismatic Gérard Lanvin. The latter plays Moltès, an inmate about to be released from prison who has the habit of playing the lottery every week and entrusting his bulletins to his guard Reggio, played by Poelvoorde.
But the day Moltès finally draws the winning number, Reggio’s wife accidentally takes the precious ticket while leaving for Africa to take part in a rally. Thinking that he has been overtaken by his prison guard, Moltès escapes and pays him a little visit, determined to drag him like a ball and chain into the middle of the desert to recover his money.

Very friendly, truly funny and carried by this particularly effective duo (in line with those that we could find in The Goat or The Guardian Angels), Le Boulet attracted more than 3 million spectators when it was released in theaters.
