If you like this series, you will probably be disappointed to learn that it has been officially canceled by Disney +.
Streaming platforms are the ideal place to discover diverse and varied content, but subscribers are not safe from never seeing the end of their favorite program. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to see series canceled, even if they benefit from the praise of its audience. The reason is always the same: the audience is not there and does not justify a renewal. At the end of 2023, Netflix cleaned up its catalog by canceling no less than five series, including Shadow and Bone, which disappointed many subscribers of the platform.

Recently, it’s a series that saw the light of day less than a year ago which has just been canceled by Disney+. Alas, no streaming platform escapes cancellations, and this time, it concerns a production called Chinese American. After only seven months of broadcast, the firm officially announced its cancellation, for reasons of low audience.

If you have watched Chinese American, you will be disappointed to learn that no sequel will see the light of day on Disney+. This adaptation of a graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang named American Born Chinese tells the story of Jin, a young Chinese-American who sees his life turned upside down when he meets a son of God from Chinese mythology. This production, however, boasted a quality cast with the presence of Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan from Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Unfortunately, despite generally positive reviews with an average of 94% from the press and 81% from spectators on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience was not sufficient for a new season. Disney still admitted to being satisfied with this series and the creativity that emanates from it. Its producers are reportedly planning to have this production acquired by other broadcasters. In any case, you can watch Chinese American, which only contains eight episodes, on Disney+ if you are a subscriber to the platform. It is interesting to note that this sad news of cancellation comes a day after the appearance of the series The Sun Brothers with Michelle Yeoh on Netflix.
