John Wick finally lays down his weapons after 10 years and 4 films where he proved that he was nothing less than the most formidable and feared assassin in the entire film industry. If Keanu Reeves leaves the Baba Yaga costume, it is to better put on that of a comic book character of his own creation. Netflix has even acquired the rights and is working with the Canadian star to adapt this science fiction universe.

The Immortal Keanu Reeves on Netflix

John Wick’s ability to get back up despite repeated attacks from his enemies suggested that he was somehow invincible. Chapter 4 of his adventures on the big screen finally restored his “humanity” to this pop-culture icon. A humanity long lost by the new character that Keanu Reeves will play on Netflix. Indeed, the actor of Canadian origin collaborates with the SVOD service on the adaptation of a comic book series written by Keanu Reeves himself and illustrated by artist Ron Garney (The Amazing Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc.).

Published by Boom! Studios following a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter which raised US$1.4 million, BRZRKR tells the story of an immortal warrior in search of a way to finally kill himself. The first volume1 sold more than 615,000 copies, the best-selling issue since a certain Star Wars #1 in 2015. The 12 publications are collected in 3 volumes, all available in France. Here is the official synopsis of the BRZRKR comics:

AN ENDLESS WAR. The man known as B. is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and forced to violence…even at the cost of sacrificing his sanity. But after wandering the world for centuries, the Berzerker may finally have found a refuge: he works for the American government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B. will get the only thing he wants: the truth about his endless bloody existence… and how to put an end to it. -Boom! Studios

Netflix intends to capitalize on the “Pop Messiah” and the sci-fi universe that it has imagined. Announced by the SVOD service to 260 million subscribers in March 2021, the live action film is still in development. One year and four months later (in July 2022), Keanu Reeves lets slip important information. A BRZRKR animated series is also on the agenda. With two seasons, the anime is entrusted to Japanese animation studios Production IG who have worked in the past on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Kuroko’s Basket, Psycho-Pass and Attack on Titan.
