The sequel to Top Gun: Maverick is in the works
This is the excellent news of the day. According to several sources, a sequel to Top Gun: Maverick is in preparation at Paramount. Information first reported by Puck which comes just days after it was reported that Tom Cruise had signed a deal with Warner Bros. to develop several productions. With this new information, it now seems clear that the agreement signed by the actor is not an exclusive contract. At least, to the extent that the actor reprises his role.
As a reminder, Top Gun: Maverick is the biggest success of Tom Cruise’s career as the film grossed nearly $1.5 billion at the Box Office. A resounding success, which even “saved Hollywood” according to Steven Spielberg. And if Maverick waited 36 years after the release of the first Top Gun film before seeing the light of day, its sequel should arrive much more quickly.
Never change a winning team
According to the same sources, this sequel should bring together almost the same team that worked on Top Gun: Maverick. Thus, the screenwriter Ehren Kruger would already be writing the script, while the director Joseph Krosinski would also be willing to continue the adventure.
In addition, Paramount would like to reunite once again the headliners of Maverick: Miles Teller, Glen Powell and Tom Cruise. The studio has so far refused to confirm this information.
