Studio Colorido returns with a fourth feature film which will soon be broadcast on Netflix

It’s a doll that goes no no no no no no

Directed by Tomotaka Shibayama, known for his work on The Crossing of Time – and who is also a veteran of Studio Ghibli – the film My Oni (Suki demo Kirai na Amanojaku) will arrive on Netflix in VOSTFR in less than two months. This fourth feature film and latest work from Studio Colorido tells the story of a boy and an oni (demon) girl. As we learn on the film’s official page, a young boy, Hiiragi, is ready to do anything to get along well with others and not to be rejected, even if it means accepting too many things. Indeed, for fear of being left out, Hiiragi never says no to his high school friends, who therefore take advantage of this to demand anything and everything from him.

One summer day, when he finds himself unable to respond positively to yet another of their requests, the young man meets an oni girl named Tsumugi, who has ventured into the human world. Unlike Hiiragi, she doesn’t care what others think and does whatever she wants.. Together, they will learn more about themselves and draw on each other’s strengths to overcome their problems. Netflix writes on the feature film page that Studio Colorido “gives us a fantastic tale about youth, which takes place during a wintery summer”.

But Netflix says yes to Japanese animation

Between Netflix and the world of animation, it’s a great love story that has lasted for many years now. In 2019, the SVOD platform seized the rights to the manga by Yabako Sandrovich and Daromeon to offer us a solid adaptation. Since then, the list of major titles has continued to grow with Far from me near me, Maboroshi, Bubble, Ni no kuni and Les Murs vagabonds. The streaming platform does not hesitate to invest in projects led by major players, like the largest Japanese studios such as MAPPA or Ghibli. Animation is an area that shines on Netflix, both with Japanese productions and international creations. As for My Oni, it will be available exclusively on Netflix on Friday May 24, 2024.
