Often mocked on the networks, the new Star Wars series benefits from a budget that makes people skeptical.
But where did all this money go? According to some sources from the New York Times, the Disney+ series, The Acolyte, would have a budget per episode almost twice that of the film Godzilla Minus One ($15 million). A statement that caused a lot of ink to be spilled and sparked discussions about the use of the colossal funds invested in production. While each episode reportedly costs around $22.5 million, some question whether the series justifies such a price tag when they feel that Godzilla Minus One’s visual effects and VFX are much more impressive. The total budget of the series would reach 180 million dollars, figures still lower than the 250 million dollars spent on Andor and its twelve episodes.

Responses in reaction to the tweet above sharing the information: “And yet, he has no qualities. Think about it. Where did all the money go?“, “It doesn’t make sense that they made such a bad show on such a high budget“, “I enjoyed Godzilla Minus One and I doubt I could enjoy even one minute of this abomination“. Nobody seems particularly delighted with The Acolyte experience. On Rotten Tomatoes, the press score nevertheless peaks at a very nice 84%, with critics agreeing that “The Acolyte is a series of Padawan who has the potential to become a Master“.
However, the public is much less won over and gives it a score of 15%, accusing it of too poor pace, poor quality images and weak narration. Despite the criticism, The Acolyte stands out a little for its exploration of a little-known period of the Star Wars universe: the High Republic. An era of peace and prosperity provides the backdrop for a gripping storyline where the outnumbered Sith pit themselves against an all-powerful Jedi Order. The series also features female characters, notably witches, users of the Force who take a holistic approach to this power.
