Among Netflix’s colossal successes is Wednesday, a series whose first season absolutely won. Rest assured, a second is indeed planned and moreover, it is the figurehead of the project who comes to tell us about it herself.
Morbid yes, but not a failure
You may not know it, but it’s been a lot of years since The Addams Family exists because it is basically small comic strips, published in an American magazine from… the 1930s ! A universe which has in reality never left American popular culture since Uncle Sam’s Country was entitled, in 1964, to a first TV series, then a second ten years later, and even a third in 1992. And also a fourth, “The New Addams Family”, in 1998.
In short, the Adams Family and the small screen is a love story that has lasted for a long time (and even then, that’s without counting the famous films of the 90s with Christopher Lloyd and Anjelica Huston) and it is clear that realize that it should last for years to come thanks to Netflix, which was able to brilliantly renew the universe with Wednesday. Centered on the eponymous character, Wednesday offered a first season in 2022, co-directed by Tim Burton, and propelling its actress Jenna Ortaga to the peak of Hollywood popularity.
We followed Wednesday’s adventures within the Nevermore Academy in a tone flirting between comedy and the lugubrious: a delicious atmosphere which knew how to speak to the public since it is about for the best start in history for an English-speaking Netflix series (the previous record was held by season 4 of The Witcher). In its entirety, it is the third most-watched Netflix series behind Stranger Things and Squid Game : in short, a huge success and there is no doubt that season 2 should also turn heads.
A season 2 that will change the situation?
Now classified as an international star, Jenna Ortaga is one of the most prominent actresses in the cinematic sphere. It was on the red carpet of the Emmy Awards that the twenty-one-year-old actress clarified, on the microphone of the media “E!”, that season 2 of Wednesday will sound different.
Everything is bigger in this second season. There’s a lot more action. Each episode will probably feel a little more like a movie, which is good and there are some very, very good lines, everything is more ambitious. This season will be more horrific!
More horror, more action, more budget, more ambitions… obviously, this season 2 only bodes well for the best. It is also a project that requires time and availability: so to speak, Ortaga will not even be able to play in the next film of the iconic Scream saga, being requested on the filming of Wednesday which will begin in April 2024, in Ireland. We are patiently waiting for a release date, that goes without saying.
