If you like the universe of Middle-earth and Lord of the Rings, you must have seen the Rings of Power series. While season 2 is still looking for a release date, the creators are already starting to think about the sequel.

Still no specific release date for season 2
Since the advent of Netflix and its multiple successful series, it has become essential for SVOD services to have at least one major flagship production. HBO also understood this well and was quick to join the battle with huge successes like Game Of Thronesbut Amazon Prime Video seemed to be falling a little behind its competitors. Obviously, they ended up finding their golden goose thanks to the release of the series The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power in September 2022.
Building on its success at the time of its release, it didn’t take long before the series was renewed for a second season. Even better, the producers have currently left for no less than 5 seasons with a total budget of a billion dollars for the whole thing. You will have understood: Amazon Prime Video is banking everything on this prequel to Lord of the Rings to highlight its SVOD service. However, almost two years after the broadcast of the first season, we still do not have a precise release date for the arrival of season 2. According to a recent article from Deadline, production is however on a very good path and the continuation of the adventures of Galadriel should arrive in this year 2024. Filming has in fact been completed since last summer, and post-production is already well advanced. Knowing that their direct competitors from HBO (House of the Dragon) also plans to release its second season around summer 2024, it would be a safe bet that Amazon is planning a fairly similar range. We will of course have to wait for an official announcement to mark the date on the calendar.
The Rings of Power series is not about to end
As we said a little above, the Rings of Power series is not likely to end any time soon. With no less than 5 seasons planned, the creators have free rein to start thinking about what’s next, and suffice to say that they didn’t have to be asked. Still according to this same Deadline article, the two showrunners are already imagining what they will have to tackle in the third season. Please note, for the moment this is only a stage of reflection since no writing has yet been started.
If it’s still a little early to imagine what season 3 will be like, we just need to take a step back to pose some hypotheses. Given the characters introduced in the first season and the name of the series, the entire story of the latter should revolve around the creation of thesingle ring and other rings forged for Men, Elves and Dwarves. We can therefore imagine that each season will focus on a particular race, with perhaps a greater place for the Men who were entitled to the greatest number of rings despite their disastrous fate. All this is of course only speculation at the moment, we will have to wait at least for the broadcast of season 2 to be clear.
