It was on January 26 that the opera The Knight of the Rose (Der Rosenkavalier in its original title) was created by the German composer Richard Strauss. 113 years later, culture is no longer the prerogative of aristocrats. Between the sequel to The Witcher 3, the Bleach series, a Disney+ K-drama and the future of Supergirl, here is today’s Culture recap.

The sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

While waiting for the release of The Witcher 4, fans of the Witcher can discover the rest of his adventures in the form of a comic book. The Witcher: Corvo Bianco is a series of comic books written by Bartosz Sztybor, illustrated by Corrado Mastantuono and colored by Matteo Vattani, the events of which take place after The Witcher 3. It is even the direct sequel to the Blood and Wine expansion which concluded the trilogy developed by CD Projekt RED. The Polish studios are once again collaborating with Dark Horse Comics for the creation and then publication of this comic book which is canon to the video game universe of The Witcher, but not to the literary universe imagined by Andrzej Sapkowski through his novels. The Witcher: Corvo Bianco #1 is released on May 8, 2024 in the United States at a price of US$3.99. No release date has yet been specified for France. In general, Urban Comics (the publishing house in charge of the saga) waits for the publication of the last chapters to put a collection on sale.

House of the Dragon actress wants to become Supergirl

The death of the late DC Extended initiated by Zack Snyder and the advent of the DC Universe headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran are blowing a breath of fresh air into the superheroic genre. We already know the replacements for Henry Cavill and Jesse Eisenberg who played Superman aka Clark Kent and Lex Luthor respectively. It is now David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult who take on these roles in the future Superman: Legacy (2025). The cousin of the son of Krypton should also soon know the identity of the actress who will play him in the future. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress tests for the role of Supergirl took place on January 23 and resulted in two finalists: Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) and Meg Donnelly (Zombies). Kara El will make an appearance in Superman: Legacy before starring in her own film.

A k-drama adapted from a webtoon on Disney+

South Korean cinema and by extension k-dramas (South Korean series) have been on the rise for several years. Fans of programs from the Land of Morning Calm will be delighted to learn that actress Park Bo Young (the sci-fi film Concrete Utopia) and actor Joo Ji Hoon (the Netflix series Kingdom) star in the supernatural thriller “Light Shop” which is scheduled to air in 2024. This series adapted from the webtoon “Shop of the Lamp” is entrusted to screenwriter and author Kang Full and will be released on Disney+ once the last episode is broadcast on Korean “airwaves”.

At the end of a dark alley is a lighting store, frequented by strange people. The store owner is not at all surprised by their frequent visits, but he warns the usual customer – a girl who buys light bulbs – to be wary of these people… What happened to them? – MyDramaList

Bleach season 3 under close surveillance

Part 2 of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War ended on September 30 without necessarily providing all the answers generated by a story which began as a reminder in 2004 with the broadcast of the first episode of the Bleach anime. Part 3 has already been made official and will be released in 2024 on Disney+ in France. However, the author of Bleach wanted to reassure fans. Tite Kubo is, according to him, much more invested in the production of The Conflict in order to “ensure that his vision of the manga is respected”. It’s via Reddit which he confirmed during a Q&A that he was involved in the storyboarding process. He thus declared:

I am currently checking the settings and production of the anime designs and storyboard for the third part of the anime. I feel like I’m starting to get more involved in the details of storyboarding the episodes. Normally, when a manga is converted into an anime, the image or message of the manga scene varies slightly depending on the audience, so my current job is to fill in the inconsistencies between different scenes in detail. – Tite Kubo
