The 3-Body Problem is the next event series produced by Netflix. Scheduled for March 21, 2024, this adaptation of the eponymous novel is causing a lot of ink to flow a few days before its release, but it is not the first to have attempted the adventure. The 3-Body Problem series by Tencent
One series The 3-Body Problem can hide another. One year, two months and six days before the original Netflix program was put online in its entirety, a first adaptation of “Remembrance of Earth’s Past” was broadcast on television, then on YouTube. Produced by Tencent (the Chinese telecommunications and entertainment giant) and CCTV (Chinese national television), Three-Body Problem adapts the literary saga written between 2006 and 2010 by Liu Cixin much more faithfully than that of Netflix.
As a reminder, the “paper” trilogy consists of the books The 3-Body Problem (2006), The Dark Forest (2008) and The Immortal World (2010). The Chinese series, for its part, takes as its starting point that of the first novel and continues the story for 30 episodes lasting around 42 minutes. Three-Body received a very good reception from the public. On MyDramaList (a social network specializing in dramas), it has a score of 8.2/0 (out of 634 voters). All episodes are also available for free in the original version with English subtitles on the YouTube channel 咪咕官方频道 MiGu Official Channel.

The Netflix adaptation of The 3-Body Problem
On March 21, 2024, a television UFO identified as The 3-Body Problem landed on Netflix. This new adaptation of the saga imagined by Liu Cixin draws on the first two novels written in 2006 and 2008, but takes many more liberties than its Chinese counterpart dares to do. This Netflix Original offers a much more cosmopolitan vision, re-arranges certain events, modifies characters, etc. with the aim of modernizing the work and reaching a wider audience.
Three Body Problem from its original title is one of the most ambitious projects produced by Netflix in 2024. With a budget amounting to 160 million US dollars (Dune 2 by Denis Villeneuve cost 190 million as example), the series is the creation of the duo behind the hit adaptation Game of Thrones ((David Benioff and DB Weiss) for HBO and Alexander Woo who serves as the final showrunner. The SVOD service can count on a cast whose reputation is second to none to interpret all the characters in an audiovisual work that is essentially choral: Benedict Wong, Jess Hong, Jovan Adepo, Eiza Gonzalez, John Bradley, Alex Sharp, Rosalind Chao, Jonathan Pryce, Liam Cunningham, etc.
