Apple TV+ is preparing to share with its subscribers a promising new mini-series which focuses on one of the least understood and known crimes in history: the assassination of Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth.

A manhunt that marked history

The Apple TV+ catalog continues to expand. After having offered us several excellent programs, such as For All Mankind, Silo, Ted Lasso, Severance and recently Masters of the Air or Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the platform is preparing to offer us a particularly promising new show: Manhunt, an investigative mini-series which traces the assassination of the President of the United States of America Abrahm Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth and the hunt for the latter by the police.

Manhunt is actually based on the book The Manhunt: The Hunt for Abraham Lincoln’s Assassin (Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer in English), written by James L. Swanson and published in the 2000s. In the same way as the book, the series must retrace the journey of John Wilkes Booth, be interested in this character, but also in the stalking and consequences of this assassination which completely shook an entire country.

A promising project

On paper, Manhunt is a series that is very appealing. And this is even more true when we look at the team who worked on it. Worn by Tobias Menzies, who is known in particular for his roles in Game of Thrones and The Crown, Manhunt is written and directed by Monica Beletsky, who worked on the series Fargo, The Leftovers and Friday Night Lights. Carl Franklin, who directed an episode of Dahmer on Netflix, also participates as director and executive producer on this new series.

Taking advantage of a fascinating historical anchor, Manhunt promises us a real dive into the United States in the aftermath of the Civil War, a time when the country was torn apart on both sides, in the grip of the civil war between the territories from the North to those of the South. A period thriller with a western feel, a project that already promises to be gripping. Join us on March 15 to discover Manhunt on Apple TV+.
