Culture news This Disney + series can save Marvel: the return of its superheroes has been awaited by fans for 27 years
Several decades have passed since the release of this series, and it is finally making its return to applause. An overhaul of the origins faithful to the basic work, careful animation and strong stakes, that’s what this new colorful animated series offers. Pleasure guaranteed!
In 1992, the animated series X-Men was released, adapted from Marvel comics. This series has become cult for an entire generation but since 1997, nothing has been released. It’s now history because the first episodes of X-Men ’97 have just been broadcast and they are unanimously acclaimed. Let’s see what the press thinks of this TV show which seems to please everyone, fans and neophytes of the genre alike.

What is X-Men ’97 about?
X-Men ’97 is therefore an animated series in 10 episodes broadcast every week on Disney + since March 20, 2024. To date, only 3 episodes have been delivered which follow the 1992 series. It features a group of mutants evolving in the 90s, at a time when the entire population feared them. However, they must come together to protect all citizens from a danger they have never faced.. Since the takeover of Fox by Disney Studios, no project on the X-Men had yet seen the light of day. However, the license continued to live on through the two Deadpool films masterfully directed by Ryan Reynolds. But with the third opus which seems to join the MCU and this quality animated series, Disney obviously wants to put mutants at the forefront.
What does the press think?
The press is unanimous: X-Men ’97 is a very good sequel to the original series. Première magazine, under the spell, headlines “an ultra-enjoyable nostalgia shot” and praises the writing of the animated TV show through “fine dialogue and a captivating plot”. For its part, the newspaper The Verge applauds the work provided as a sequel, affirming that the series “perfectly pays homage to the mutants of the original work – with a few caveats – by taking their story and nostalgically highlighting what made them icons of the 90s”. However, the series seems to suffer from a story that will not come to fruition by the end of season 1, which may frustrate more than one. However, the series is not yet finished so let’s wait patiently for the other 7 episodes to be available. For now, you can watch the first 3 on Disney+.
