Published in 2021, the Invasion series features the famous Professor Grant from Jurassic Park, aka Sam Neil, in a very different universe. Featuring a deliberately slow plot, this saga prohibited for children under 12 years old takes advantage of considerable resources to immerse spectators in a particularly successful end-of-the-world atmosphere. It all begins in the Arabian Desert in Yemen. After a dull growl, a man suddenly sees a strange phenomenon approaching. In Invasion, Earth is plagued by warlike aliens who threaten humanity. Five people, very different and living in different places on the planet, will then experience this event with their qualities and their weaknesses. Invasion is misleading by its title, but before focusing on the threat and the spectacularity of it, the series is above all a story of characters. Some people love it, others have given up, but there’s no denying that Invasion offers a very interesting read in the SF genre. Almost everything is suggested, but it is an interesting approach which has attracted many spectators since the series has been renewed and is preparing to return for the third time.
A promising third season?
We have just learned that filming for the third season of Invasion will begin on February 12 in Vancouver, Canada, and end in September 2024. Suffice it to say, we will have to be patient! At the helm of this new season, we do not change a winning team since Simon Kinberg and David Weil will resume their director hats. Whether we like it or not, Invasion is a huge audience hit around the world (the opinions of the press and spectators are disparate, however) and the plot should feature completely new protagonists, thereby broadening the universe of the series. For the showrunners of the series, Invasion takes the structure of a film with its different seasons and the third season should show a serious acceleration of events, a bit like the second half of the second act of a feature film. Knowing that it is one of the most expensive series on the platform ($200 million for the first season), we can expect a show to match.
