French cinema has, once again, decided to surprise us! With the Empire, the French public is likely to live an astonishing experience. When the world of French cinema tries its hand at Star Wars, what happens? Answer below.

What is the movie Empire?

Bruno Dumont, director and screenwriter born in Bailleul, returns to the cinema with a totally offbeat proposition, like his other productions, which risks getting people talking. The director of France, Jeanne or even Jeannette, the childhood of Joan of Arc has embarked on a parody science fiction project! The person concerned chose to imagine a French-style Star Wars, but without taking itself (totally) seriously. According to the various rumors in the corridor, this project was not at all easy to set up. Initially, The Empire was to have Virginie Efira in the lead with Adèle Haenel, but the film was not going well at all and the director decided to revise his copy by calling on other actresses and comedians. The filmmaker has always known how to destabilize spectators, but with his new feature film, he is likely to divide.

In the Empire, which is therefore a parody of Star Wars, the extra-terrestrials have a major role with a scenario which could recall, in certain aspects, Cabbage Soup. Because yes, we are clearly more in this creative register than in the approach of George Lucas’ Hollywood blockbusters. Expected for February 21, The Empire tells the story of the invasion of Northern France by extra-terrestrials wishing to take control of the country. On Earth, the authorities and inhabitants are completely helpless and it is in this completely barred atmosphere that the population will band together to try to survive.

A totally crazy poster!

Considered by its author as a parody, but also a tribute to Star Wars, The Empire takes up the codes of the famous science fiction film: lightsabers, imposing ships, despotic emperor, all-out special effects… and above all what you need humor. The poster has just been revealed and it reflects the film starring Lyna Khoudri, Anamaria Vartolomei, Camille Cottin and Fabrice Luchini (who promises to be epic in the role of the despot). Director Bruno Dumont does not forget where he comes from and once again reveals an entire section of his region. Needless to say, it promises to be very disconcerting, with burlesque, but also poetry on every level.
