After the flop Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the DC Comics team of super-villains must return with a new television series with a promising concept. What to reconnect with fans?

The Suicide Squad’s new mission

What can we say about the Suicide Squad, except that the team of supervillains struggles to reveal its full potential with its various adaptations. After a catastrophic first film, Warner Bros. decided to save the furniture by offering a second adaptation, a sort of soft reboot directed by James Gunn. A more convincing second feature film, which for the moment does not have the ambition to give rise to a real sequel. but this year, it is more on the video game side that the Suicide Squad made its return with the title Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Here again, the result is rather disappointing. We end up with a generic service game, which even tarnishes the legacy of the Arkham Knight saga according to some players. the game is a failure for Rocksteady and Warner while the players have started asking for refunds and the servers are gradually deserted – there are 308 active players currently on Steam according to SteamDB. In essence, the Suicide Squad is not popular at the moment, but the tide could turn in the favor of these villains with this new project full of promise.

Meeting between comics and Japanese animation

Warner Bros. has not said its last word and intends to offer a new mission to the Suicide Squad. This time, heading to Japan for Harley Quinn’s team. The anti-heroes of DC Comics wander into Japanese lands for a frankly attractive project: an original anime with a concept that is just as original, while the universe of comics meets the genre of isekai, or Japanese fantasy which primarily sees its protagonists transported to a medieval fantasy world. The project had already been announced last summer and now Warner Bros. bombards fans with numerous promotional trailers. And it’s more than convincing, especially when we know that it’s WIT Studio (Attack on Titan, Spy x Family) which is responsible for the animation. The release of this anime is scheduled for 2024, without any additional details. We do not yet know the streaming platform that will host this series. To be continued. In the meantime, you can still find the new trailer at the top of the article.
