Curiosity in Upamecano’s contract: Bayern’s newcomer has to train at the former club

Curiosity in Upamecano’s treaty
Bayern newcomer has to train at the former club

Dayot Upamecano is FC Bayern’s top transfer so far. The French defender comes from the Bundesliga competitor RB Leipzig. And that’s exactly where he has to start the season. Because during the term of his contract, the Munich apparently did not pay close attention.

Dayot Upamecano is facing a curious situation, according to a report by “Sport Bild” and will have to train again at RB Leipzig despite his move to Bayern Munich. The reason for this is therefore that the French defender’s contract does not start until July 15 and he will remain a player in the Bundesliga soccer team from Saxony for as long as he will start the season preparation on July 5 under the new coach Jesse Marsch.

Florian Scholz, Commercial Director Sport at RB Leipzig, told “Sport Bild” that it would make more sense for both clubs if Upamecano would start preparing directly at his new club after the summer break. “But it is correct that this is not the case with the current contractual arrangement. We therefore expect him to start training at RB Leipzig today.”

According to the information, Leipzig is ready to let the 22-year-old Upamecano come to Munich on July 1st if FC Bayern should take over half the monthly salary, according to “Sport Bild” around 200,000 euros. The talks about it failed, however. Upamecano, his advisor and the German record champion did not want to comment on the information.

Not in the EM team

Upamecano’s move was already confirmed in February. He is the top transfer of the German soccer champions so far in this transfer period. The Frenchman was given a contract until 2026. FC Bayern pays RB Leipzig € 42.5 million for him. When the transfer became known, Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidzic said: “Dayot will be a very important component for our team in the coming years, we are convinced of that.” The start of the contract on July 1 was also communicated – apparently a mistake.

The fact that Upamecano could even compete for training in Leipzig on July 5th is due to the fact that he was not nominated for France’s EM squad. National coach Didier Deschamps did without the 1.86 meter tall central defender. Upamecano made his debut with the reigning world champion and group opponent of the German team in September 2020, since then he has played three games and even scored a goal in the Nations League game against Croatia. Most recently he was again in action for the U21s at the European Championships. There France was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Netherlands (1: 2).
