This is how the styling works

Many women believe that curling is only possible with a curling iron. But that's not true! Beautiful, defined curls can also be achieved with the straightening iron! You can find out how to do this here.

Style curls with the straightener

Preparations:

  • brush
  • Handle comb
  • Heat protection spray: Applying heat protection is particularly important so that the hair is not damaged.
  • Hair clips
  • Straightening iron: It is best to choose a straightening iron with a rounded top – this will avoid kinks in the hair. Straighteners with a ceramic coating prove to be particularly gentle.

Requirement: It is important that the hair is completely dry. So if you want to wash your hair before styling, you should blow-dry the hair well or simply wash it the day before (this also makes it much more handy).

That's how it's done:

  1. Comb your hair and apply heat protectant.
  2. Use the styling comb to divide the hair into equal sections and secure it with bobby pins. Preheat the straightener.
  3. Start at the back of the head: Remove a strand from the hair clip and place the straightening iron at about ear level. Rotate the straightener 360 degrees so that hair is wrapped around it once. Now slowly pull the iron down in this position. To help, you can keep the strand slightly taut. Make sure that you don't change the angle. By sliding the wrapped straightener over the straightened hair, large, defined curls are created. Note: If the straightening iron no longer glides so well towards the tips, this could be an indication that this section of hair is a bit rougher and therefore more stressed. If so, reduce the pressure you put on the straightener.
  4. Gradually curl all of the hair and finish with the front top hair at the end.

Style curls with straighteners: Helpful tips

  • It is best to use a straightening iron with a freely adjustable temperature. Since you go down the strands very slowly, the temperature should not be too hot. It is better to start cooler and avoid heat damage!
  • Thinner strands result in curlier hair.
  • The slower the straightener is pulled down, the more defined the curls become. But be careful: By slowly pulling it down, you expose your hair to greater heat, which can affect it more. You shouldn't do this styling more than once a week on healthy hair.
  • If you already have natural curls, you can freshen them up with the straightening iron and give them more bounce.
  • Heat stresses the hair, so frequent styling also requires a lot of hair care. It is therefore important to give your hair, whether curled or straightened, a styling break every now and then and to use a hair treatment once a week. Here you can find out how you can make a hair treatment yourself.
  • How the curls last longer: For a better hold and more definition, fix each strand of hair with hairspray immediately after styling.
