After qualifying for the semi-finals, Switzerland defeated Sweden 8-5 in the top game. Sweden’s Skip misses the last stone.

The Swiss curlers around Skip Yannick Schwaller end the round robin of the World Championships in Ottawa with a 8:5 win against defending champion Sweden. They close the round robin with 11 wins from 12 games and will be able to start the following games with the advantage of the last stone.

The further program of the Geneva quartet Pablo Lachat, Sven Michel, Schwaller and Benoît Schwarz is still completely open. The opponent in the semi-finals will only be determined on Saturday evening in the quarter-finals.

Mistakes decide Switzerland – Sweden

The duel between the Swiss and the Swedes, whose outstanding skip Niklas Edin is aiming for his fifth world title in a row, was balanced for the longest time. In the first half of the game, both teams were only able to convert the advantage of the last stone into a point.

The Swedes gained a real advantage with a stolen stone in the 8th end to lead 5:3. But the Swiss crew fought back in the end: with a three-way house in the 9th and two stolen stones in the 10th end – because Edin, who was otherwise so sovereign, made a mistake.
