The Swiss curling team secures its 12th victory in the 12th game of the round robin at the World Championships and can start the final games with a lot of self-confidence.

The Swiss curlers did not give up at the World Championships in Sandviken, Sweden, even after the early semi-final qualification including group victory and celebrated two more victories in the last round robin games. It was 7:6 against Scotland and they beat South Korea 5:3.

This means that the team around Skip Silvana Tirinzoni can start the semifinals on Saturday with a lot of self-confidence. In the preliminary round, the defending champions celebrated 12 wins in 12 games.

You can follow the Swiss women’s World Cup semifinals live on Saturday from 4 p.m. on SRF info and in the SRF Sport App.

Switzerland will not know who they are up against in the semi-finals until Saturday afternoon. She meets the winner of the match between Italy and Sweden.

Even before the knockout games that follow, the three-time world champions from CC Aarau have achieved something extraordinary. Since March 2021, they have now won 33 World Cup games in a row. No other team – not even the men’s – has come close to achieving such a streak in the history of the World Championships.

Two close decisions

The final game in the preliminary round against South Korea was balanced for a long time. It was only in the 10th end that Tirinzoni, Alina Pätz, Briar Schwaller-Hürlimann and Carole Howald scored a two-man house with the last stone and thus secured the 5:3 victory.

The game against Scotland in the morning was not a sure-fire success either. Thanks to a three-way house in the 4th end, the Swiss quartet pulled away to 4:1. The Scots, who are currently in the lower regions of the table after the end of the Eve Muirhead era, did not let the world champions rush.

In the 9th end, Rebecca Morrison scored a strong last stone to equalize 6:6. With the advantage of the last stone, the Swiss secured victory. Once again Pätz showed her nerves of steel – hopefully also at the weekend in the finals.
