Restaurateur Tim Koch misses his favorite food while chatting. Without further ado, he submits a currywurst emoji to the Unicode Emoji Subcommittee.

Numerous culinary delicacies are already represented as emoji. Pizza, sushi and shawarma can all be used as an icon when chatting. But a typical German snack is missing: the currywurst. Restaurateur Tim Koch wants to change that.
Together with the Hamburg creative agency blood, Koch created a currywurst emoji and submitted it to the Unicode Emoji Subcommittee. According to lifePR, the committee only publishes around 30 of a large number of proposals each year. However, Koch is confident that the currywurst has what it takes to become an international emoji. Because the symbol can be easily combined with other dishes and would represent Germany.
Emoji suggestions can be submitted to the committee until July 31, 2022. After that, a jury will decide which new icons will be available on Android and iOS next year. Koch also works on currywurst projects off the screen. In the Ruhr area, he would like to devote an entire museum to the cult dish.
